Zero Assists

LeBron James is not even as good as Kobe Bryant, much less better, and he’s overrated. He’s bigger and stronger than Bryant, and he plays in the relatively weak Eastern Conference, so yeah, he travels and carries the ball runs through everybody and jumps over them. But in terms of basketball skill (jump shots, free throws and defence) and competitive drive (wanting the ball when the game is on the line and making the shot), it’s Kobe’s world.
What I will concede is that comparing the two players is silly. LeBron is playing in his fifth season, Kobe his twelth. Who knows if Kobe in his fifth year was better than LeBron is now? Who can say if LeBron will be as good seven seasons from now as Kobe is today? Stats would yield a definitive answer if they were compiled against identical opponents under identical circumstances, but as fate would have it they aren’t.
What is certain is that last night, LeBron James scored 21 points on 7-for-21 shooting in his team’s loss to the Houston Rockets. Oh, and he had no assists. Not one. Homie was dimeless. A poor shooting night and no assists? This from the player some people call the game’s best?
‘’I can’t remember the last time I didn’t have an assist,'’ James said to reporters after the game, ‘’but as a team, we didn’t move the ball at all.'’
LeBron was the one not moving the ball, which was in his hands often enough to take 21 shots. Oh, and wait; do I smell … blame shifting? Nah, I must be mistaken, what with King James being the consummate team player.
We are witnesses but his fans are delusional.
