Feeling Brand New

I don’t remember the last time I felt as good as I do now. Two weeks ago I drastically reduced my intake of turkey, chicken and beef, and the way I feel now is almost indescribable.

‘Good’ would be a gross understatement. I feel rejuvenated, like I could run through a brick wall without breaking stride. I’m energetic and in great spirits. I no longer feel fatigued come evening. I don’t get headaches. On Wednesday night I felt a cold coming on. I got a full night’s sleep and by Thursday night, I was back to feeling 100 percent. Even my sinuses have cleared up.

Since I decided to cut back on meat, I’ve had a grilled chicken sandwich and a few slices of beef and cheese pizza. Both were delicious. But the way I feel now is even better.

So, what have I been eating? Tuna, salmon, tonnes of spinach, red, yellow and orange bell peppers, tomatoes and whole wheat pasta. For snacks I’ve put down the cookies and picked up some raisins. After a few hands full I’m good.

Time and geography permitting, I’m going to get into carrots and broccoli starting this weekend. Truth be told I hate them both, so I’m going to get a little creative with the seasoning (garlic, cumin). But I would hate being in poor health more and I feel confident in saying that at the rate I was going, I was headed there on a bullet. As it is now I feel terrific and I’ve dropped a few pounds without trying to.

As for my love affair with Snapple … *sigh*. Well, I still drink it but not nearly as much as before. There was a time when downing five to six Lemon Ice Tea Snapples in a day was nothing to me. Now two is about the most I can do. I upped my water intake, although it’s still nowhere near 80 ounces a day (a gallon doesn’t do the trick, my dears and good men).

Before I modified my diet, I resented some vegetarians. You know, the preachy ones who would try to make people who eat meat feel like savages. I guess I still resent them but I can admit now that they were on to something. I don’t know a vegetarian who is in poor health. I’m not talking about folks who don’t eat meat but consume everything else except vegetables, mind you. I’m talking about actual vegetarians. They look great and they’re in excellent physical shape.

I don’t want to get in the business of telling anyone what to eat. But to anyone who is thinking about making a lifestyle change for whatever reason, I want you to know that reducing or eliminating meat from your diet isn’t hard to do once you make up your mind. And it won’t be long before you feel like a new person.
