Saturday night various and random musings

I’ve become kinda hesitant to give free product plugs on The Breaking Point (some bloggers charge $25,000 to write new product reviews) but I have to give it up to Sanpellegrino Limonata. If you haven’t tried it, you might be playing yourself a little bit. The can says it contains “Sparkling Lemon Beverage With 16% Of Lemon Juice From Concentrate.” Whatever that means works for me. It’s delicious and I especially appreciate the foil wrapping at the top of the can.

When I was in the store buying the Limonata I bumped into a woman I met about three years ago. She’s attractive: about 5′3″, dark brown skin, large eyes, curly hair and a come hither smile. She’s also well-spoken, does volunteer work and has a career in marketing.

We had a couple of conversations by phone, but I could tell after the first one that for whatever reason, she wasn’t feeling me. I wasn’t looking at rings, either. It happens. We see each other from time to time and always speak. Tonight, though, there was something about her vibe that was kinda off putting.

I can’t put my finger on it and I’m not really trying to, but as I drove out of the parking lot it occurred to me that if we’d hooked up (whatever that means) when we met there’s a good chance we wouldn’t be on speaking terms today.

That’s not a knock on either of us; people with the best intentions fail at maintaining relationships that “should” work. But she probably did me a favour by not showing any interest and I probably did her (and myself) a favour by not sweating her. I say that because I know plenty of women who swore up and down that they weren’t feeling a guy whom they later ended up dating because he was persistent.

I’m not persistent and I have never been. I don’t think I need to be. If I walked up to a woman and offered her a 10 ct. diamond and $1 million in cash, I wouldn’t need to persist in getting her to accept it, would I?

Can someone explain to me why studios feel the need to announce that their new films are “only showing in theatres”? Where else would a new release be showing?

Does Tamron Hall have “Caucasian features”?

I ask because that’s what I was told recently when I listed her as one of the women I find I attractive. I recognise that Tamron isn’t the darkest sister around, but to describe her as having Caucasian features seems like quite a stretch.

I was also told that Liya Kebede has “Caucasian features.”

I don’t see them. Not that it much matters but, um, she’s Ethiopian.

When I look at these pictures, I see black women.

Ridiculously, I was also told that Vanessa Bell Calloway has vaguely “Caucasian features.” No, we’re thinking about the same Vanessa Bell Calloway:

Seriously?

I offer no apologies for not having been brainwashed into believing that a black woman has to look whiteish in order to be attractive physically or that unless a woman is as dark as the night sky with a broad nose, thick lips, high cheek bones and kinky hair that she shouldn’t be deemed attractive.

A much better picture of Liya Kebede
